Chapter 1 by Hai Ning

I sit on a rock by the ocean.
Huge waves crush on a silent cliff.
Thump!...Thump again! Millions of spray.
They are happy flowers cleansing all trivia.

I erase the dull part of college education,
I keep smell of grass on summer campus.
I keep pretty daffodils with melting snow.
I erase Buddha's teachings.
I keep clear blue sky, pure white clouds.

I sit on a rock by the ocean.
Huge waves crush on a silent cliff.
Pink and orange foams sob ashore in sunset.
A golden pelican flies afar
in solitude and freedom.
